Stress Relaxation Mechanics in Functionally Different Tendons at the Fibre Level

چکیده
Introduction Tendons are hierarchical fibre composite materials, designed for the efficient transfer of force from muscles to the skeleton, and thus displaying high tensile strength, as well as complex viscoelastic and anisotropic characteristics [1] . Although the gross viscoelastic behaviour of tendon has received considerable attention, the mechanisms by which the tissue structure facilitates this behaviour are less well understood, and may differ between tendons.

Functionally distinct tendon fascicles exhibit different creep and stress relaxation behaviour
Most overuse tendinopathies are thought to be associated with repeated microstrain below the failure threshold, analogous to the fatigue failure that affects materials placed under repetitive loading. Investigating the progression of fatigue damage within tendons is therefore of critical importance. There are obvious challenges associated with the sourcing of human tendon samples for in vitro a...
متن کاملFree Vibration Analysis of Size-Dependent, Functionally Graded, Rectangular Nano/Micro-plates based on Modified Nonlinear Couple Stress Shear Deformation Plate Theories
In the present study, a vibration analysis of functionally graded rectangular nano-/microplates was considered based on modified nonlinear coupled stress exponential and trigonometric shear deformation plate theories. Modified coupled stress theory is a non-classical continuum mechanics theory. In this theory, a material-length scale parameter is applied to account for the effect of nanostructu...
متن کاملWave Propagation in Fibre-Reinforced Transversely Isotropic Thermoelastic Media with Initial Stress at the Boundary Surface
The reflection and transmission of thermoelastic plane waves at an imperfect boundary of two dissimilar fibre-reinforced transversely isotropic thermoelastic solid half-spaces under hydrostatic initial stress has been investigated. The appropriate boundary conditions are applied at the interface to obtain the reflection and transmission coefficients of various reflected and transmitted waves wi...
متن کاملViscoelastic analysis of stress distribution in balanced and unbalanced adhesively bonded single-lap joints with functionally graded adherends under the Reddy model
In this study, shear and peel stress distributions in the viscoelastic adhesive layer of a single-lap joint (SLJ) with functionally graded (FG) adherends are investigated. The study focuses on the effect of different adherend profiles and material composition on the time-dependent stress concentration/distribution in balanced and unbalanced SLJs. For this purpose, the Reddy model is applied to ...
متن کاملComparison study between layered and functionally graded composite beams for static deflection and stress analyses
The aim of this paper is to compare the static deflections and stress results of layered and functionally graded composite beams under static load. In the comparison study, the results obtained for a cantilever beam under point load. The Timoshenko beam and the Euler-Bernoulli beam theories are used in the beam model. The energy based Ritz method is used for the solution of the problem and alge...
